2021-22 Federal Budget – Organics, Food Waste and Product Stewardship
The waste and resource recovery sector will benefit from new funding announced in this week’s federal budget for 2021-22.
National Waste and Recycling Industry Council (NWRIC) CEO Rose Read said it was pleasing to see new funding announced for several initiatives.
“It was good to see new funding being committed to help divert organic food from landfill and importantly, put it back into agricultural soils.
“This is a key step to addressing the National Waste Policy Action Plan target of halving the amount of organic waste being sent to landfill and reaching the 80% resource recovery rate. ....

Additional support for business events


Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
The Morrison Government is taking action to provide additional support for Australia’s business events industry.
The Government today announced it would provide:
an additional $3 million for its successful Business Events Bid Fund Program to attract international events to Australia and that the program would be extended by 12 months.
an additional $1 million towards its domestic-focussed Business Events Boost Program, which provides support to industry-led business events marketing and distribution projects.
Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Dan Tehan said the business events sector contributed $36 billion to the Australian economy before COVID-19.
“Since its launch in 2018, the Business Events Bid Fund Program has helped attract 40 international events to Australia worth approximately $411 million in economic value,” Mr Tehan said. ....

Vic government launches its own National Business Event Program

The Victorian State Government is offering grants of up to $25,000 for business events held in Melbourne, in a bid to encourage interstate travel into the city and get cash running through the events supply chain again.
Administered by the Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB), the National Business Event Program funding initiative is intended to help business organisers cover the costs of hosting an event, with 50% of the funds available upfront, before the event starts.
The cash can be put towards venue hire, accommodation, transport and other costs.
Detailed eligibility criteria for the scheme has not been released, but events must be held in Melbourne before December 2022. ....

Tasmania’s tourism operators, hotels, caravan parks and restaurants are set for a rush of tourists as part of a new $1.2 billion support package from the Morrison Government.
Assistant Minister for Industry Development Jonno Duniam said 800,000 half-priced airfares would be provided under the package to get Australians travelling and supporting tourism businesses.
“Discounts will be offered on tens of thousands of fares per week across an initial 13 key tourism regions, including Launceston, Devonport and Burnie,” Assistant Minister Duniam said.
“We know that when $1 is spent on a ticket, $10 is spent on the ground, which will give Tasmania’s economy the boost it needs as it recovers. ....
