Texas LB Jake Ehlinger, Brother of Former Longhorns QB Sam, Found Dead

University of Texas linebacker Jake Ehlinger, the younger brother of former Longhorns quarterback Sam Ehlinger, was found dead Thursday.
Austin police did not specify a cause of death but do not consider his death suspicious, per Brian Davis of Hookem.com. Police said they received a call just after noon Thursday and responded to the 1200 block of West 22nd Street, where they found Ehlinger.

UT panel: 'Eyes of Texas' has 'no racist intent'

A committee charged with looking into the history of the University of Texas s fight song, “The Eyes of Texas, found that it has no racist intent, but was used in racist settings over the school s history.
Faculty scholars, students and others argued in a 58-page report unveiled on Tuesday that while the intent of the lyrics was not racist in nature, the song has nevertheless been used in minstrel shows and in periods when Black students were not allowed on campus.
These facts add nuance and richness to the story of a song debuted in a racist setting, common for the time, but, the research shows, was intended to parody the famous phrases of the university president, reads the report. ....

The “Eyes of Texas” controversy reached a boiling point last summer for the Texas Longhorns.
So much so that when players at first protested the song, a few members of Texas’ alumni circles reached out to some players to make threats, according to recent social media posts from Texas junior linebacker DeMarvion Overshown and former safety Caden Sterns.
That’s serious stuff.
When we put out the statement, I received many hateful things including death threats! But that never bothered me.it was the promises that were broken and the fact that they TRIED to strip us of our freedom. No where in my NIL does it say “you have to sing” to play here.
