Human rights groups sued government agencies for info about Afghans stuck at processing sites while their applications to come to the U.S. are pending.

After escaping the Taliban in August 2021, a group of Afghans spent over one year in five countries, living with great uncertainty before the small Baltic country of Latvia accepted them. InfoMigrants spoke to one of the Afghans refugees who made it to the capital Riga.

It's been a year since the US military left Afghanistan. Initially, some Afghans regarded as "high level" were sent to the US Army's Camp Liya in Kosovo. But dozens are still stuck there, after failing to receive security clearances to move on.
