Global PC market likely to grow 8% in 2021

The global PC market including desktops, notebooks and tablets is expected to grow 8 per cent in 2021, according to the latest forecasts by Canalys.
As per Canalys’ estimates, the total PC shipments in 2021 are expected to hit 496.8 million units, with all categories enjoying growth.
“Backlogs on device orders from last year are being boosted by continued demand from workers and students still affected by Covid-19 restrictions. But supply issues will persist throughout this year and be the main restriction on higher growth levels,” Canalys said in an official release.
Shipments are expected to rise 54 per cent in Q1 and 7 per cent in Q2 with growth expected to be frontloaded in the first half of the year.

Chromebook Shipments Almost Quadrupled in Q4 2020 With Over 11 Million Units: Canalys

Chromebook sales almost quadrupled Q4 2020, with shipments reaching 11.2 million units, as per a Canalys report. This is a 287 per cent increase over Q4 2019's figures, and brings the full-year total to 30.6 million units. The coronavirus-induced lockdowns have resulted in a surge in demand for Chromebooks, likely for remote education uses. With 3.5 million units shipped in Q4, HP maintained the top spot in the market. Lenovo had the second-highest numbers with 2.8 million units and a staggering 1766 per cent growth.

“Demand for Chromebooks is through the roof,” said Canalys Research Director Rushabh Doshi. “With many countries being forced to accelerate their digital education plans in the wake of additional lockdowns, schools and universities are clamouring for easy to deploy solutions and Google’s digital offerings for education are proving quite popular over rival platforms.”
The rise of the Chromebook is sure to continue especially as there's no confirmation on when the current UK lockdown is coming to an end.
Of course, it's not just Chromebooks that have seen huge growth with Apple's Mac range also getting a boost.

Chromebook shipments set new record in a pandemic-hit 2020


The ongoing coronavirus pandemic gave a huge push to online learning, which unsurprisingly led to a surge in the demand for e-learning hardware such as tablets and affordable PCs. Chromebooks, in particular, had a great year with shipments touching a record figure, As per market research report by Canalys,
worldwide Chromebook shipments stood at 11.2 million units in Q4 2020, which marks a massive growth of 287% compared to the same quarter last year. 
In terms of segment leadership, HP emerged as the top Chromebook brand, trailed by Lenovo and Dell
Overall, the net global Chromebook shipment stood at 30.6 million units. The report adds that the overall Chromebook market almost quadrupled in size vis-a-vis the same point last year. Talking about individual contribution on a per-brand basis, HP emerged as the segment leader with 3.5 million units shipped in Q4 2020, witnessing a growth of 235% on a YoY basis. Lenovo took the second spot with a shipment figure of 2.8 million units, recording an astounding growth of 1766%. Acer and Dell shipped approximately 1.5 million units each, while Samsung sat at the fifth spot with just over a million units.
