Stamford police Capt. Richard Conklin said Benjamin Fumega, 24, was drinking by himself at Vinny’s Backyard Restaurant and Bar on Saturday night when he and two other patrons developed a “rapport.” ....

Police identified the woman as 33-year-old Tiffany Farrauto, a New London resident, in a news conference Sunday. She faces charges of murder and risk of injury after her son was found “unresponsive and unconscious” in her apartment Sunday morning by officers responding to a report of a woman smashing a car with a baseball bat, police said. “We’ve lost a second child in the city to violence in as many weeks, this time a 4-year-old,” Mayor Michael Passero said in the news conference. “Our community is hurting.” ....

Tiffany Farrauto, 33, was charged Sunday afternoon with murder, risk of injury to a minor and criminal mischief after police said she told investigators that she “strangled” her son. A New London judge continued her case to March 22 and transfered the matter to Part A court, where serious felonies are heard. ....
