Sunday, Iowa residents came together for a town hall asking what they can do about three proposed CO2 pipelines. Each one would go through dozens of counties in Iowa.
The House bill would require pipeline companies to obtain 90 percent of the miles along their proposed route through voluntary easements before being granted eminent domain authority.
Pipeline companies would need to secure 90% of the route voluntarily and wait for new federal safety regulations.
Proposed pipeline-related legislation in this session mostly has come from Sen. Jeff Taylor, a Republican from Sioux Center, though none of the bills he has proposed has advanced.
There is some energy in the Legislature to restrict eminent domain for carbon pipelines, but the future of the legislation is unclear.
