carroll had won the case, her initial reaction was stunned and disbelief. that quickly morphed to deep satisfaction. quote, finally, said boris. he is officially an actual predator. let's discuss now with molly don, host of the fast politics podcast and special correspondent for vanity fair. not already, former prosecutor and legal affairs columnist with political, and carolyn, a former federal prosecutor and msnbc legal analyst. great to have all three of you with us. carol, let start with you. legally speaking here, or does it mean for a former president to be held liable in a civil court of law for sexual abuse? >> well, it doesn't mean that they can continue running for president, even if it was a criminal conviction, he could continue running for president as long as it is not a conviction for treason. but what this does do of course is create something of a drag on his candidacy.
we are showing a picture of your daughter right now. beautiful picture of her squeezing the bear. very touching image on this mother's day with her parents forward deployed in europe. carolyn, we've seen that operation gratitude issued 19,593 battalion bears, 87,556 troop packages at cost of $25 per care package. what is the reaction that you received from the people whose lives you're touching? >> well, we get so many letters of thanks from the troops, from their family members, everyone we support but it's -- it's a thank you circle, gratitude circle. we are trying to thank them for their service. both the children and the adults and it's very hard warming for us to get that kind of feedback but more heart warming for us to fill those battalion buddies and get them to those children.
bears. welcome to both of you. happy mother's day. >> thank you, thanks for having us. mike: carolyn, tell us what operation gratitude is doing this mother's day. >> well, operation gratitude says thank you to all who served and for mother's day we helped send our battalion buddies, cuddly stuffed animals to the children of so many moms and dad that are deployed currently including to captain donet's daughter joy. mike: what is the impact? >> the impact, it means so much. mike: captain what does this mean to your daughter receiving care packages? >> i think it means the world to her. i would say -- [inaudible] >> sleeps with them every night. it's a source of comfort for her. mike: carolyn, for those folks watching who want to help out, what can they do? >> well, they can go to our website operationgratitude.com and there's so many activities that everyone can participate in, handwritten letters of support are meaningful and possible that they can do. handmade greeting cards, they can come fill box, fill a care package and get it sent off. mike: captain, the audio has been tricky, you are forward deployed. what message do you want to send to your precious daughter jordan on mother's day?
