KCC staff recommends charging all Evergy users $35 minimum bill to accommodate solar users
The Kansas Corporation Commission held a hearing Wednesday, which will continue Thursday, in which Evergy and solar advocates made their cases and were questioned before commissioners on proposed rate increases to accommodate solar users. Evergy wants to charge people with solar panels a monthly grid access fee of $3 per kilowatt, even if their home doesn’t take electricity from the grid. For the average home with panels, that would be about $20 to $30 a month. Otherwise, the utility company will look to charge all its customers a minimum bill of $35 per month.
