Karnataka private hospitals body PHANA launches Search My Bed portal

95 private hospitals have started uploading real-time data on bed availability
The Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes’ Association (PHANA) on Sunday launched a portal — Search My Bed — which will provide real-time information on the availability of beds in private hospitals for the treatment of COVID-19 patients. This has been a long-standing demand from citizens who were otherwise forced to call up private hospitals or knock on their doors to see if there were any beds available for patients.
Secretary of the PHANA Rajashekar Y.L. said that 95 private hospitals had already started providing real-time information on bed availability. “In the coming days, more and more hospitals will be enrolled and hospitals will be encouraged to display the data in real time,” he said.

Bed management system: 'Emulate Kerala dashboard'

Three-member committee submits its report to BBMP chief
The three-member committee, which was formed to make the Central Hospital Bed Management System (CHBMS) transparent and plug loopholes, has recommended that the portal be developed on the lines of the dashboard of the government of Kerala. The committee submitted its report to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta on Friday.
According to highly placed sources, the committee recommended an overhaul of access control, a security audit, generation of daily reports and analytics, and improvements to the existing portal.
Kerala’s dashboard is data driven and provides daily reports, details on active cases, vaccinations, hotspots and community kitchens. “Many features from Kerala’s dashboard can be incorporated. Right now, CHBMS is just reflecting availability of beds under government quota in various healthcare facilities. It may require some work to develop new interfaces,” said a source.

Bed management system fine-tuned: civic chief

One change is a stricter login process
Following several allegations of bed-blocking by officials in exchange for monetary favours and subsequent investigation by the CCB, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has incorporated some changes and fine-tuned the existing Central Hospital Bed Management System (CHBMS).
BBMP Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta told
The Hindu that the civic body had put in place a stricter login process. Protocols have been defined and certain actions can be taken only after authorisation from higher authorities. “We received many recommendations, and we have fine-tuned the existing system,” he said.
After the bed allotment scam came to light, the BBMP had constituted a three-member team to look into the CHBMS and plug loopholes to avoid misuse. The three-member team, comprising V. Ponnuraj, nodal officer for the State war room; Kumar Pushkar, nodal officer for CHBMS; and Vipin Singh, nodal officer for 1912 helpline; is yet to submit a report to the BBMP Chief Commissioner.

COVID-19: Bed management system down

Engineers could not respond immediately as they were being questioned by police
The Central Hospital Bed Management System (CHBMS) of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) was down on Wednesday, and the problem could not be rectified for several hours as the software engineers had been called for questioning by the police.
The portal was developed for patient referral system, triaging and assigning a bed in hospitals depending on availability.
Kumar Pushkar, who is part of the three-member team constituted to look into making the system more robust and transparent, acknowledged the problem and said the developers were working on rectifying the problem. He added that the system would be up by Thursday morning.

COVID-19: Portal on beds in private hospitals to go live on Wednesday

PHANA attributes delay to technical issues
Currently, citizens can look at the Central Hospital Bed Management System (CHBMS) to ascertain where beds are available in government and private hospitals under the government quota. A similar system will soon go live for beds available under private quota.
The Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes’ Association (PHANA) will be launching the ‘Search My Bed’ portal that provides information on availability of beds in private hospitals by Wednesday, said Prasanna H.M., president, PHANA.
“We were running the portal privately, but there were some technical issues that cropped up. We are providing training to hospital staff on updating information on bed availability in real time. We will go live by Wednesday,” he confirmed.
