The Texas House advanced House Bill 5, which would allow large businesses to pay reduced school property taxes. The bill is meant to replace Chapter 313, which expired in December.
The new iteration of Chapter 313 would cut local taxes for manufacturing and oil and gas companies, and newly exclude renewable energy projects.
The old program, Chapter 313, gave manufacturing and energy companies steep initial discounts on their school property taxes in order to lure them to Texas.
