Social media censorship: A safety measure or a threat to free speech?
For the first time in history, the UK is planning to set up an ‘internet watchdog’. The announcement of the Office of Communication, better known as Ofcom, to head up the new form of regulation came on Wednesday 12 February, and will see the an independent company regulating the content of social media platforms operating in the United Kingdom such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and TikTok.
