Greenlight Dispensary's Springfield location, one of 16 in Missouri, is shown on April 26, 2021. Its "projected opening" is expected in a few weeks, said Greenlight CEO John Mueller.
Roughly six months after licensed medical marijuana dispensaries started opening in Springfield, one is coming to the eastern edge of downtown.

Another location under the same branding will open just south of the Highway 76 strip in Branson, at the corner of Green Mountain and Wildwood drives.
That's according to Greenlight Dispensary CEO John Mueller, who spoke to the News-Leader from his office near Kansas City Monday morning.

Mueller said Greenlight's tagline, "cannabis with culture," is meant to express closeness with medical marijuana patients.
"The patients, you know, just don't believe that they should be treated like a criminal," Mueller said. "I just don't believe in (situations) where you've got to got through big glass walls and all kinds of other stuff to serve a normal patient. So I think it's more of a one-on-one connection, and connecting that patient with the person behind the counter."
Mueller said the Springfield Greenlight Dispensary had its walk-through inspection with state medical cannabis regulators a couple of weeks ago. It could be open in two to three weeks, he said.

Looking for a (legal) bag of weed? Soon, you won’t have to go too far anymore.
Illinois now has 110 dispensaries licensed to sell recreational pot — more than ever before — after state regulators issued a slew of permits in recent weeks ahead of a critical deadline.
There are now 19 licensed weed stores in the city, 47 in the suburbs and 44 more spread elsewhere across the state. A dozen of those are slated to open in the city and suburbs in the near future.
The rush to secure additional licenses came amid a takeover streak by major pot companies looking to expand their footprints and cash in on the state’s booming weed industry. As a result, the state’s billion-dollar pot market could soon be dominated by as little as 27 players, many of them giants of the cannabis world.

As Illinois weed sales boom, cannabis industry faces growing movement to unionize

The Illinois weed industry, fresh off surpassing $1 billion in revenue during its first year of recreational marijuana sales, may already be facing its “Norma Rae” moment of union awakening.
Seeking higher pay, career advancement and better protection from the COVID-19 pandemic, cannabis workers from Chicago to Springfield have begun to unionize, planting a seed that could reshape the fast-growing marijuana labor landscape.
“The industry has unfortunately just provided jobs, and not the well-paying careers that we all thought cannabis was going to generate,” said Moises Zavala, director of organizing at Local 881 of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union, which is representing cannabis workers in Illinois.
