Mobile vaccination clinics are still top of mind for city officials looking to bridge the gap in vaccination rates between different regions of Calgary.
The current disparity in vaccination rates is nearly 20 percentage points between the areas with the fewest immunizations and the region with the most, Calgary Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) Chief Sue Henry said Tuesday, adding that the difference between them is not caused by a lack of desire from residents who want their shot.

Two Edmonton doctors are raising red flags about the speed at which Alberta plans to lift COVID-19 restrictions.
On Wednesday, Premier Jason Kenney announced a three-stage reopening plans based on vaccination rates and hospitalization levels that could see almost all of the province’s COVID-19 restrictions removed by late June or early July.
Dr. James Talbot, a former Alberta chief medical officer of health and co-chair of the Edmonton Zone Medical Staff Association’s (EZMSA) pandemic committee, called the province’s plan “reckless” and “unsafe” and predicted a spike in cases as a result of restrictions lifting that quickly. ....

City to call for COVID vaccine priority for frontline workers

The city will ask for frontline workers in public transit, utilities and emergency services to be prioritized in phase two of Alberta’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout.
City council unanimously approved a motion from Coun. Jeff Davison on Monday that calls for advocacy to get Calgary’s “critical infrastructure workers” in line to be vaccinated. The next phase of Alberta’s vaccine plan is split into four steps, and mostly focuses on broadening eligibility based on age. Some additional health-care workers and people who live in certain kinds of congregate settings are also included in the next immediate vaccination plans. ....
