It s interesting dichotomy, this thing with money. a lot of christian preachers when they hear you talk about money feel uncomfortable. you know that. you ve stein criticism. sure. i think it s important that s not the focus of the ministry and i get categorized into this guy that s a prosperity preacher. i don t believe in that. the main thing i m talking about is how you can excel and forgive. in recession hit america what s wrong in being a prosperity preach center. when you re a poverty preacher what kind of message does that send to somebody. god doesn t want you to be blessed. with the economy the way it is, god can make a way even in the desert even when you don t see a way. the american dream at it s heart is very much on the british caste system where your parents went to school. in america it s hard work, achievement, success and material gain comes from that. ....
isn t it easy to say natural you re loaded. most of your parishioners, the people in the congregation don t have this kind of money. is there a contradiction there between saying god wants us to be rich if you re the only rich guy standing there? again i don t say that. i say god wants us to be blessed. if anything it s an example to me if god did it for us i was working at a church where are you going to make the kind of fund. if god did it for us he can do it for you. it s important because i get categorized into this guy that wants everybody to be rich. god wants you to be rich in health, in relationships. i want to you have plenty of money. i don t want money to be your idol. how much should i have. it s a matter of perspective. we spend a lot of times overseas in india and everybody in america is rich. everybody in my congregation is rich. ....
They gave us wine. i tasted at it sip. we gave our wine to the guy it is sitting next to us. love wine. i can give you a bottle of wine now and it would change your life forever. you know, i don t. we re happy. i don t feel like i need it. so i just stayed away from it. you re the same. we don t drink. you don t smoke? no, don t smoke. never took drugs? no. you re the cleanest people i ever met in my life. i ought to repent my sins. that was the goal. there s no pressure as a child growing up in that kind of an environment. now to give you some idea of the contrast. my parents run a country pub in england. i grew up immersed in alcohol. i woke up, a pub is a bar. ....
piers, let me pack up a minute. when i say god wants you to be rich. when i talk about rich, god wants you to be blessed. rich in good health and good relationships and peace and you got to have money to pay your bills. god has blessed us, piers, through our books. how many books how far sold. 20 million. that s all the by product. these? a lot of those. how many dvds? i don t know. do you know how much you re worth? i never dwell on it. i never even dwell on it. can we dwell on it now? wouldn t know the figures. you got an immaculate suit on, well cut shirt. dazzling outfit you have on. well i think one thing, you said, piers, it is true, we don t have to apologize for god s blessing. money is not the focus of our life. it never has been. ....
You learn to value what s in front of you and not just chase after things that really have no meaning. how do you keep your kids grounded into it if they are born into wealth. neither of you were born into great wealth. she can probably answer this better. we don t think of ourselves any differently than we did one child is 15, the other is 12. we don t think much about it. we have fun as a family. we play football together. i just think it s the atmosphere in the home. it s fun, it s loving, they see us giving, they see us working hard. i think like this line where you say, one of the core values, really, is that everyone s best days are in front of them. i don t believe god would have us alive if he didn t have something great in our future. i under we ll all die. you have to live the bible talks about the saints of old that died in faith. you may not see every dream dome pass but you have to hope that god has something great for me to do. ....
