MONTREAL — Québec solidaire has won a provincial byelection in the Montreal riding of Saint-Henri-Sainte-Anne, capturing the once Liberal stronghold on Monday night.
For the first time in its history, the riding of Saint-Henri—Sainte-Anne in Montreal's Sud-Ouest has turned its back on the Liberals, electing Québec solidaire's Guillaume Cliche-Rivard.
The party remains the only one with any hope of challenging the CAQ in 2026, but first it must sort out its leadership problem.
The victory of Quebec solidaire in the byelection in Saint-Henri-Sainte-Anne is a defeat for the 'politics of division' of Premier Francois Legault, says party spokesman Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois.
At his first news conference as MNA, Québec solidaire's Guillaume Cliche-Rivard said he will represent all the electors in the Montreal riding regardless of their allegiance.
