The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 216 new cases of COVID-19 and 12 coronavirus-related deaths Friday.
Since the virus hit the state in March 2020, a total of 308,737 cases and 7,139 coronavirus-related deaths have been reported. 
According to a New York Times database Friday, at least 909 new coronavirus deaths and 74,312 new cases were reported in the U.S. Over the past week, there has been an average of 70,514 cases per day, an increase of 8% from the average two weeks earlier. ....
