Destruction of forests slowed in 2021 but not enough to meet 2030 commitment made by 145 countries

More than 140 countries made an ambitious pledge last year to halt forest loss. There's been progress, but not nearly enough.

WASHINGTON (October 13, 2022) — On October 19th at 9:30 am EDT/2:30 pm BST, World Resources Institute (WRI) and Climate Focus will host an embargoed press call to preview the findings of a new research paper, “Not Just Carbon: Capturing all the benefits of forests for stabilizing the climate from local to global scales,” as well as the “Forest Declaration Assessment,” which assesses progress toward ending deforestation and restoring forests in line with the commitments under the Glasgow Leaders’ Declaration.
