A SCHOOL has pledged to embark on an ambitious journey of rapid and sustained improvement after it was rated inadequate in a damning Ofsted report and placed into special measures. Portesham Church of England Primary School, which was previously rated outstanding, was visited by Ofsted inspectors who found the school had significant weaknesses . Inspectors declared that the personal development, behaviour and attitudes of pupils require improvement, while the quality of education, early years provisions, and leadership and management are inadequate. This was the first time Ofsted had visited the school since 2012, when it received an outstanding rating. The school has now been placed in special measures, meaning it will be closely monitored by Dorset Council and helped to improve standards. ....

Police were called out after a walker found what is believed to be human skull. Officers are not treating the find as suspicious and have launched an investigation to confirm whether the skull did in fact belong to a human. Analysis is due to take place to date the bone, with it initially thought to be at least 100 years old. Police were called to the scene at Soutergate, Kirkby, at around 2pm on Saturday after the dog walker reported the skull. A police spokeswoman said: “Police were called at 2.07pm, on Saturday March 6, to Lidget, Soutergate, Kirkby. “A member of the public reported finding what they believed to be a human bone whilst out walking. ....
