There is a deep, bleeding hole in my heart. Alexei was not only, like, a political leader, he was also a very close friend. And, you know, in the last years when he was imprisoned, and we were exchanging emails, were often discussing, like, the future and how we will go there and here, and discuss this and that, and do this and that. And its hard for me just to get used to this new world where alexei isnt here any more, because he was a great personality who was, like, really able to fill any room where he was in. And hes very much missed. I understand the deep grief. Would it also be fair to use the word despair about your current feeling . No, thats not correct. Alexei was a very inspirational leader, and his main slogan was, like, never give up. And if there is one thing that weve learned from him in the many years that we worked together i worked together with him for 13 years was this thing, like, never give up. To be in despair would make his sacrifice in vain, would be betrayal ....

of our own mortality is absolutely central to the human story. why? well, all creatures strive to live on, to keep going. they wouldn t be around us any more if they didn t. the mouse that didn t care about surviving wouldn t pass on its genes. so we come from a long line of creatures that are determined to keep going. but we have these big brains, that s part of our survival mechanism, if you like, that allow us to see the future, to generalise. and we re conscious of ourselves as individuals, and that means we re conscious of our own deaths. and of all the billions of creatures on earth, very few creatures have to live with that terrible awareness that, one day, all of their efforts will come to nothing. and so, if we look back through human history, what we see is humanity struggling to make sense of this. some of the earliest archaeological evidence we find of human development is grave goods, for example, suggesting people very early believed in an afterlife. the o ....

before those strikes took place, the boss of maersk, one of the world s biggest shipping companies, spoke to the bbc to warn of significant disruption to global supply chains because of the houthi attacks. maersk, like other shipping operators, is re routing its vessels away from the red sea and suez canal. instead they are taking the long way round , from asia to europe, and around the cape of good hope. that s an extra 3500 nautical miles, or up to two week s sailing, adding as much as $1 million per ship, in fuel alone. maersk ceo vincent clark told the bbc that these extra costs are already being passed onto consumers. this assessment of the most important oddities of global trade and to rewrote all of this cargo now south of the cape of good hope is going to create significant disruptions to the global supply chain for the duration in which we have to do that and probably a few months more as we have to get back then into normal. you need to see a stronger mobil ....
