The top-seeded Jefferson City Jays set the tone from the opening tip Wednesday at Capital City High School. Jordan Martin tipped the opening jump forward to Kendric Johnson, who ran into the paint for a floater five seconds into the Class 5 District 5 Tournament first-round matchup. It was a good indication of what was to come in the Jays’ 79-37 victory against the No. 8 seed Capital City Cavaliers.
The Capital City Cavaliers had two chances to win Tuesday’s game against the Sedalia Smith-Cotton Tigers and send their two seniors off on the right note on Senior Night. But both opportunities came up empty as the Tigers walked out of Capital City High School with a 49-47 victory after erasing an 11-point second-half deficit.
For the second straight night, the Capital City Cavaliers used a huge third-quarter run to claim a win. The Cavaliers beat the Monroe City Panthers 60-42 at Capital City High School on Friday to win consecutive games for the first time this season.

The Helias Crusaders got out of their shooting funk Friday night. After back-to-back games of shooting less than 30 percent from the floor as a team, Helias made 51 percent of its shots against the Capital City Cavaliers. The Crusaders bounced back from their worst loss of the season with their most lopsided win of the year, defeating the Cavaliers 77-52 in Central Missouri Activities Conference play at Rackers Fieldhouse.
