Fishermen in Canada's biggest lobster fishing district will vote this spring on whether to increase the minimum legal size of lobster they catch. The vote comes as the number of landings is down in southwestern Nova Scotia.
The U.S. increase was automatically triggered by surveys in the Gulf of Maine, including ones showing a continued decline in the abundance of young lobster. The measure was made to allow lobster more time to mature and reproduce.
