WLRN News 2023-2024 high school student intern shares what it was like applying to college as a first-generation college student in Miami-Dade County.

Since Bank of Hawai‘i’s College Assistance Program began in 2016, 25 employees have now earned degrees from Chaminade University or an associate degree from the University of Hawai‘i Community Colleges with more than $2.1 million in educational costs covered.  This year, all four employees—Rita Aponte, Ryan Chang, Cindy Corpuz and KerryLynn Vea—received their bachelor’s degrees in business administration.

Since 2016, Bank of Hawaii has paid for 20 employees to earn degrees from Chaminade University or an associate degree from the University of Hawaii Community Colleges. This program allows employees to earn their degree while continuing to work full-time.

Linda Yoshimoto was working full time at Bank of Hawaii to put her daughter and two sons through college when she learned about the company’s College Assistance Program, which fully covers tuition and fees for textbooks and materials.
