/ Panama City Pastor Jesse Nelson won the Lynn Haven mayoral special runoff election on Tuesday, May 18, 2021. Panama City Pastor Jesse Nelson will become Lynn Haven's first mayor since former Mayor Margo Anderson's arrest and subsequent resignation nearly a year ago. Panama City Pastor Jesse Nelson won Lynn Haven's mayoral race by a thin margin after Tuesday's special runoff election. Nelson eked out a victory against fellow first-time candidate Ellyne Fields, winning by less than 30 votes. Fields had secured the most votes in April's special election, in which there were three candidates running. No candidate secured more than 50% — triggering a runoff election. After the poll's closed on Tuesday evening, Nelson had secured 50.46% of the vote.
/ Lynn Haven voters may cast their ballot in the special runoff elections for mayor and city commissioner at the town's Senior Center on Tuesday, May 18, 2021. Lynn Haven voters are electing their next mayor Tuesday—almost a year after former mayor Margo Anderson stepped down following her arrest on public corruption charges. Bay County Elections Supervisor Mark Andersen says no candidate in last month’s mayoral and city commission races got enough votes to win outright — triggering three runoff elections: one for mayor and two for city commissioner seats. The Lynn Haven City Commission has governed with one vacant seat for nearly a year. That will change after the polls close Tuesday evening, when the commission will have at least two new members and possibly a third if City Commissioner Judy Tinder loses her seat. That will give the town a full, five-member commission.
LYNN HAVEN — One commissioner's performance evaluation of Lynn Haven's city manager landed her on the judgment block during a recent meeting. In a 3-1 vote last week to approve a satisfactory level of performance and compensation for Vickie Gainer's first evaluation as city manager, commissioners responded to what they called "a personal attack" that was reflected in Commissioner Judy Tinder's poor evaluation of Gainer. Commissioner Pat Perno said the evaluation stuck out "like a sore thumb," as the evaluation appeared to be "stuck on particular past incidents, but not judging her overall on her performance." "It smacks as a personal conflict or attack, not one of work evaluation," said Commissioner and Mayor Pro-tem Dan Russell. "That being said, some of the comments that were made in it I've found to be unfounded and untrue."
