Heating assistance available | News, Sports, Jobs

ST. CLAIRSVILLE The Community Action Commission of Belmont County is assisting income-eligible households with winter heating needs through March 31.
Eligible households, with less than a 10-day supply, may receive a one-time delivery of bulk fuel or propane valued at up to $900. Utility customers may receive assistance up to $175 for regulated utility customers and up to $750 for unregulated utility customers to prevent disconnection of service, restore service or establish service.
Regulated utility customers may also sign up for the Percentage of Income Payment Plan, which is a payment plan based on monthly income.
Income eligibility guidelines for PIPP follow 150 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines and HEAP follow 175 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Staff is also available to electronically file state HEAP applications. To apply for the program, clients are required to schedule an appointment with the HEAP office by calling (74 ....

The local Pathways Overdose Response Team (PORT), also called the Quick Response Team (QRT), has been keeping busy during the pandemic as the number of drug overdoses has risen. PORT is just one component of Fayette County Pathways to Recovery.
Fayette County Pathways to Recovery was started early 2019 through the Community Action Commission and consists of five certified Peer Recovery specialists who have a lived experience of addiction and have found long-term recovery. Sen. Brown introduces 'Direct Support for Communities Act' | News, Sports, Jobs

MARTINS FERRY U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown introduced legislation he hopes will provide direct relief to communities that have lost revenue during the COVID-19 pandemic.
During a press conference held via telephone Wednesday, Brown, D-Ohio, said his proposed Direct Support for Communities Act would give money directly to cities, townships, villages and counties with budgets that are struggling because of the pandemic.
Brown said the act coincides with President Joe Biden’s new American Rescue Plan that includes $350 billion in state and local funding.
Brown said he does not yet know the exact allocations his bill would provide for local governments, but a formula based on population would be used. He noted 70 percent would go to cities, townships, villages and counties and the rest to states. ....
