A situation even if there were air pockets, the air would be exhausted at this point? well, it s a function how big the compartment was and how much air is in it. sooner or later you ll run out of air, issues with temperatures of the water would limit survivability, in my view. it s interesting, we talked to a navy s.e.a.l. telling me, look, as long as the water goes below your core, below your waist, you could survive days of this water. really once it goes over your core you could have a problem. people out there say there s no chance, there could be a chance depending on the water level, but you ve been in these situations. how difficult is it to get someone out from a capsized ship, so if you find someone who s alived, how do you get into that space, get them out, given it s underwater? well, the first thing you have to consider is are they ambulatory, able to walk, or seriously injured? my guess is they could be seriously injured, so now you re trying to not make their injur ....

It s a lot longer. so there s a little bit more room in this wheel well? 00 why envision. i ve not actually been inside both but you would envision a bigger aircraft with a bigger compartment would have that. tell me how to get there, or skipped security to get, but being inside this compartment, tell us what all is here, and could he potentially cause damage to the plane just having a human body in that space? this is a brilliant picture and it shows all the complexities inside the compartment. you ve got hydraulic lines. electronics. fluid systems where you ve got reservoirs. i mean, there s a lot going on in here. anyone climbing up into it, isn t familiar with it a stowaway, could potentially be putting their hand on hydraulic line or damage the airplane. and potentially threaten the lives of passengers on board? ....

If there s a compartment that leads to the hull which is pressurized to 8,000 feet and it is heated. these are secluded off. so the environmental conditions we were talking about would actually be the case if someone was hidden up here. a really important thing to note, having spoken with a couple of pilots, there are airports around the world where there is a stowaway warning. when the aircraft lands on the ground, the engineers will drop the doors to allow the pilots who are doing the walk-around, to allow them to look up and in to make sure there are no stowaways. there are only a few airports around the world where those exist. especially considering he survived. also the security lapses i m sure people will be taking a look at. people trapped aboard a sinking ferry in south korea now being brought out of the sea, sadly in body bags. the toll it s taking. ....

Diver showed us how air pockets can be found. when they re in a small compartment with an air bubble, they have to stay calm and breathe shallow and conserve the oxygen in that space. reporter: aside from the danger and difficulty of passengers trying to get to air pockets and close water-tight doors, bobby sculley says there s a danger of trying to pump air into an underwater vessel. you risk letting the air out of that compartment and allowing the ship to start to sink even more and that risks those survivors that might be in that situation. reporter: but sculley says south korean rescue teams are capable with advanced equipment and the best training. she says they ll need every ounce of that now, brian todd, cnn, washington. still ahead in the next hour of newsroom, the search for flight 370 enters its 42nd day. if there s any wreckage found, ....
