Search for flight 370, a potential new lead. officials now say they ve recovered what they describe as an object of interest on the coast of western australia. it appears to be a piece of sheet metal with rivets, possible fiberglass coating on one side. officials are cautious, they say it s possible this has nothing to do with the plane, but they insist they re taking the discovery seriously and will investigate it thoroughly. let s bring in our experts. aviation consultant ken christensen. cnn law enforcement analyst tom fuentes. ken, let me start with you. you hear the descriptions. they haven t released a photograph yet. we don t know much more but they re taking it very seriously. how seriously does it sound to you? i think they should look at the object, but fiberglass and metal that says boat, if it s composite, carbon fiber and metal, aircraft rivets, flush ....

And really work in the water. they re not going to get accurate sound readings. they re not going to get accurate data readings. and it is that hurry up and wait situation for them. christine, there s one thing i do want to ask you about, and it s something else i heard one of the experts in ocean debris mention. and that is that the debris field as the days move on gets bigger, which could be a good thing because it allows, you know, us not to perhaps miss a small debris field. but i would also assume that it gets thinner as it gets bigger, as that cloud moves and getting bigger, it may get thinner. can you weigh-in on that? i think what they re doing is they ve been very good at tracking and weighing in on different satellite images they re getting and putting together some kind of composite of the direction of the debris fields moving based on the ocean currents. again, it will depend on wind. it s sort of like if you think of leaves, they re just sort of clumped together depend ....

Manufactured from 2015 forward. it doesn t help anything in the past. and there are 20,000 planes up there now. could take a lot of time to retrofit. speaking with mark weiss, our aviation analyst, longtime american airlines pilot, he made the point that a boeing 777 has more metal in it than the airbus, which was the air france plane, which has more composite, which is therefore more likely to float, making parts of the 777 less likely to float because that metal content. does that make sense to you? in some respects. i admire mark weiss i know him quite well and he s definitely the knowledgeable person on the 777. but i would argue a little bit that most of the composites on the airplane bus, and i ve been at the factory, i was there when the 380 was being built and observed their manufacturing practices, what s mostly composite on those aircraft, what they focused on is the control surfaces and the mounting of the controlled surfaces to be composite. the fuselage, while it doe ....
