Sandwich Industrial Park Will Add Solar Farm To Its Customer Base

After asking several questions about noise, trees and property taxes, the Sandwich Planning Board on Wednesday, May 5, said “yes” to a solar farm proposed for a parcel at the end of Jan Sebastian Drive. The 46-acre property, owned by the Housing Assistance Corporation, was the home of a community garden for several years. The unanimous vote by the planning board on Wednesday night will allow the acreage to metamorphose into 2.1-megawatt ground-mounted solar farm. The vote came after an hour-long public hearing. Much of that time was used by Lodestar Energy’s Dan Watson, business developer, to describe the project.

Solar Farm Proposed For Former Sandwich Community Garden Site

Industrial park land that supported a bountiful community garden for many years could soon produce a different kind of harvest. The Housing Assistance Corporation, a nonprofit housing organization that owns the land, is proposing that its acreage be used for a solar farm. The proposal was discussed on Wednesday night, January 26, by a subcommittee of the Cape Cod Commission. The regional planning agency reviews all Cape Cod development projects that are larger than 30 acres. Dan Watson, of Connecticut-based Lodestar Energy, said his company would like to build a 2.1-megawatt ground-mounted solar array on the Housing Assistance Corporation’s 46 acres at the end of Jan Sebastian Drive.
