With the investigation, cnn reports this, questions asked of two recent witnesses indicate smith is focusing on how money raised off those baseless claims of voter fraud was used to fund attempts to breach Voting Equipment in several states won by joe biden and squarely in jack smiths sights, unindicted coconspirator number three, thats trump codefendant attorney Sidney Powell. Cnn reports this, quote, according to sources, witnesses interviewed by jack smiths prosecutors in recent weeks were asked about powells role in the hunt for evidence of vote fraud after the 2020 election. Including how her Nonprofit Group defending the republic provided money to fund those efforts. If team trump was literally trying to break into the Voting Machines after the fact, then the truth spun by chris krebs about the security of the 2020 election was a real fly in the ointment. There is no foreign power that is flipping votes. There is no domestic actor flipping votes. I did it right. We did it right.
thank you for being with us. that s it for me, newsroom with brooke baldwin starts right now. this is cnn breaking news all right,ry hasn t narcs thank you very much. i will take it over from here. i m brooke baldwin. we will break into our news, president trump may have tried to interfere in the michael cohen investigation. they are reporting the president spoke to his acting attorney general matt whitaker about this notion of getting the u.s. attorney of the southern district of new york to unrecuse himself from that cohen investigation. so, mark mazetti is one of the reporters over at the time s who broke this story opened. let s start at the beginning. how did this conversation play out between the acting ag and the president of the united states? reporter: right. so not long after whitaker was installed as the acting attorney general, trump calls him and
he didn t want to put extra sanctions on. congress kind of boxed him in there. that s the white house side of the story. arthel: so if in fact putin is trying to manipulate president trump somehow, does concealing conversation play into the hands? the one thing it does do it even if president trump had good intentions going in there with his private meeting is that if no one on this team knows what donald trump said, he might have audio, he can hold that over the president if the president suddenly goes back on a promise he made there. even with good intentions, it could give vladimir putin and advantage over the president. it s just strange. the most benign explanation of this shows this function in the national security apparatus. donald trump doesn t even trust his own national security team. arthel: if we can switch gears to tuesday and they, would you think is going to happen in the william bar hearing, of course
economic growth, and i think we ll have further details on that, but this is going to be a real interesting opportunity to really create a dialogue. i think in a manner that hasn t been done before, but i m not going to get ahead of myself on this. where we can really discuss some of the inhibitors to job creation, job retraining, what do we need for american workers to get them ahead of the curve? with respect to specific policy positions, i think the president has been very clear that the next couple of weeks we expect to have a tax plan that gets out there. that is being worked on continuously. so i m not going to get in front of that. while the ceos are here, i m sure beyond some of the things, that s an opportunity for them to express what some of those policies are that are both helping them create jobs and grow as an economy and also inhibiting them. let s let that conversation play out. yes. thank you, sean. my name is raquel from tv global news, brazil. i have a question fro
would break out. let s turn to the spring of 2016 if we can for a second. how does this conversation play out on the debate stage in the republican primaries right now with rand paul, obviously, carving out as some of his opponents called the peacenik view. i love that word. a blast from the past. and i didn t know, chris is laughing in my ear. i didn t know he was old enough to remember that word. but i think it s rand paul and i ve written about this previously, really taps into, i don t know if you d go so far as to call it isolationist, but leave us alone, let us tend to our own business, and the republican party, just like in the democratic party. and i think you re going to see a lot of that conversation play out, both in the republican primary and to a certain extent, we don t know how the democratic primary may shape up. in the democratic primary, it s an important debate to have going forward and, boy, choosing between the foreign policy of dick cheney and the foreign
