Despite snow and high winds Thursday on Newfoundland’s west coast, schools stayed open in Corner Brook, but parents were notified that the buses couldn’t get there by regular pickup time. Businesses and stores closed due to the fierce weather, which had the RCMP urging people to stay off the Trans-Canada Highway from Deer Lake to Corner Brook.
