Centre writes to Maharashtra over surging Covid-19 cases
The Central Government team has suggested Maharashtra to ramp up its efforts on containment strategies and scale up the pace of vaccination drive.

MUMBAI: Amid concern of rising Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra, the Central Government team has suggested the state to ramp up its efforts on containment strategies and scale up the pace of vaccination drive.
In a letter written to the Maharashtra Chief Secretary Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said that the state is in the beginning of a second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
Bhusan said this after the central team s visit to the state last week. The letter further stated that very limited efforts were undertaken to track, test, isolate cases and quarantine contacts. There is no adherence to COVID appropriate behaviour among people both in rural and urban areas, it added. ....

NEW DELHI: Maharashtra continued to drive the surge in Covid-19 infections in India, accounting for 61% of all fresh cases recorded in the country last week.
However, at least 10 other states/UTs also showed a significant rise in infections during the week (March 8-14), indicating a wide resurgence of the pandemic in the country.
Meanwhile, India recorded 24,458 new cases on Monday, a shade lower than Sunday’s count of 26,386, as per TOI data collated from state governments.

Coronavirus: India reports 16,752 new cases, choice of vaccine likely in few weeks

India on Sunday reported 16,752 new coronavirus cases, taking the overall count to 1,10,96,731, government data showed. The new cases were 1.60% higher than Saturday’s count of 16,488. The country’s toll rose to 1,57,051 after 113 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.
The number of active cases stood at 1,64,511, while the number of recoveries reached 1,07,75,169. So far, more than 1.43 crore health and frontline workers have been vaccinated against the coronavirus.
The Union health ministry said that Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat accounted for 86.37% of the new cases. Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh’s coronavirus case count hit zero on Saturday as three patients recovered from the infection. ....

The cabinet secretary will chair a high-level review meeting on Saturday with eight states and union territories exhibiting a surge in Covid-19 cases, the Union Health Ministry said.
