Over 3.8 lakh people have been inoculated for coronavirus in the country so far. More than  500 adverse events following immunisation were reported, accorrding to Union Health Ministry s latest data provided Monday night. The ministry also informed about two deaths in Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka post the vaccination. India on Saturday, January 16, gave the first COVID-19 vaccine shots to nearly two lakh frontline healthcare and sanitary workers as Prime Minister Narendra Modi rolled out the world’s largest inoculation drive against the pandemic that has caused 1,52,093 deaths and upended millions of lives in the country. ....

New Delhi, Jan 16: Covishield vaccine has been developed by the University of Oxford and British-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca.
Adar Poonawalla, Chief Executive Officer, Serum Institute of India (SII) which is British-Swedish pharma giant AstraZeneca s manufacturing partner - said that the vaccine would be 90 to 95 per cent effective if the two shots are parted by around 2-3 months.

The vaccine is being touted as one of the most promising vaccines for India where cost and logistics play a big roll.

New Delhi, Jan 16: The consent form that must be signed by Covaxin beneficiaries states that its efficacy is yet to be established. It assures compensation by Bharat Biotech in case of a serious adverse event that is proven to be causally related to the vaccine. It further states that beneficiaries would be provided care in government-designated facilities if they suffer any adverse events.
The form read that only phase 1 and 2 trials have been completed, and that phase 3 is still on.
