Ranchi: Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking free COVID jabs for the 18-44 age group, saying the state was unable to incur nearly Rs 1,100 crore on it due to stressed resources.

Coronavirus: India's vaccine export ban has affected 91 countries, says WHO chief scientist

The World Health Organization’s Chief Scientist Soumya Swaminathan has said that India’s ban on the export of coronavirus vaccines had a severe impact on 91 countries, reported NDTV.
“Ninety one countries are impacted by the shortage of supplies, particularly since the AstraZeneca parent company has not been able to compensate for the doses which have not come from Serum [Insitute of India],” Swaminathan said in an interview, adding that these countries were vulnerable to the new, more transmissible strains, including the B.1.617.2 coronavirus variant first found in India.

India on Saturday reported 18,327 new coronavirus cases, pushing the country’s tally to 1,11,92,088, data from the health ministry showed. The toll jumped by 108 to 1,57,656.
The country recorded over 18,000 cases after 36 days, according to PTI. On January 29, 18,855 new infections were recorded in a span of 24 hours after which the daily caseload remained below 18,000. ....
