Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper on Monday reported 46 new positive cases of COVID-19 in Erie County since Sunday and an additional 17 deaths since Dec. 23.
There have been 11,251 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 242 related deaths in the county, according to the Erie County Department of Health.
As of Sunday night, there were 106 COVID-19 patients in Erie County, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health dashboard. There were 67 adult patients in intensive care unit beds and ventilators in use for 12 COVID patients.
County residents are reminded to wear a mask that covers their nose and mouth when near anyone who does not live inside their home, keep a 6-foot distance from others, stay home as much as possible and definitely when feeling ill wash hands frequently and limit activities outside of the home. ....

Erie Community College receives $10 million state RACP grant


The Erie County Community College has received an early Christmas gift from Gov. Tom Wolf in the form of a $10 million Redevelopment Assistance Capital Project grant. 
The grant money is the first funding allocated by the state to the new community college, which the Pennsylvania Board of Education approved in July. Plans call for the college to begin offering classes in the fall of 2021.  
The community college was the largest project in Erie County to receive RACP funding. Nine other projects received a combined $13.5 million, of which $3 million was previously pledged.
The community college money will be used for capital costs, including the acquisition, construction, renovation of property and buildings where classes would be held, as well as the machinery and equipment necessary for the operation of the college and education of students. ....

COVID-19: Daily update on coronavirus cases in Erie County and statewide


Nursing home residents and employees in Erie County will begin receiving Pfizer s COVID-19 vaccine on Monday.
Residents and staff at LECOM Senior Living Center, 5535 Peach St., will be vaccinated by represenatives of Walgreens, LECOM Health officials said in an news release. The chain pharmacy is working with LECOM Health through the federal government s Pharmacy Partnership for Long-Term Care Program.
Other long-term care facilities across the state will be vaccinating residents that day, said Rachel Levine, M.D., Pennsylvania Secretary of Health.
The vaccine is a nice holiday gift, James Lin, D.O., president of the LECOM Institute for Successful Aging LECOM, said earlier this week. The last eight weeks have been difficult for the local long-term care facilities. ....

State reports 222 new cases of COVID-19 in Erie County


Erie County s nursing homes, many of which have suffered massive COVID-19 outbreaks over the past five weeks, expect to start receiving vaccine by early January.
Officials with Pleasant Ridge Manor in Fairview Township and Saint Mary s Home of Erie both said they don t know exactly when the COVID-19 vaccine will arrive or how much they will receive.
There s no specific date, said Bob Smith, Pleasant Ridge s executive director. The earliest would be the end of December but probably more like the first week of January.
Long-term care facilities like Pleasant Ridge and Saint Mary s are partnering with chain pharmacies through a federal government program to have their residents and employees vaccinated. ....
