Ford plans to expand its Craiova, Romania plant to build a new commercial vehicle, including the EV version by 2024.
In addition to unveiling plans for Ford Ion Park in Michigan, the automaker confirmed plans to spend even more money on electric vehicle production in Romania.
Ford also said this week it will invest $300 million to build a new light commercial vehicle in 2023 at its Craiova Assembly Plant in Romania, including an all-electric version due to debut in 2024, making it the first all-electric Ford vehicle to be built in Romania in volume.

It will be produced from 2024 in Romania, alongside a conventional version that will enter the market a year earlier.
Ford announced a new $300 million investment in Romania, where it intends to build a new light commercial vehicle at its Craiova Assembly Plant, starting in 2023.
Initially, only the conventional version of the vehicle will be produced, but
The Craiova Assembly Plant currently produces Puma and Ford EcoSport models, as well as 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine.
Previously, the company announced MEB-based electric car production at Ford Cologne Electrified Vehicle Center in Germany and commercial electric vehicle production at Ford Otosan’s Kocaeli plant in Turkey. In total, three European sites were confirmed to produce EVs.

Ford Romania plant to build new commercial EV from 2024

Ford has confirmed a new light commercial vehicle will be built in Romania in 2023, with an electric version set to follow a year later.
A $300 million investment in the Craiova Assembly Plant is the latest part of Ford's aim to electrify its entire commercial vehicle range, which will be 100% zero-emissions capable by 2024 as either all-electric or plug-in hybrid models. The company expects two-thirds of its commercial vehicle sales to be EVs or PHEVs by 2030.
Craiova will become Ford's third European production facility to build an all-electric vehicle, following recent investments in its plants in Cologne, Germany, and Kocaeli, Turkey.
