Windsor-Detroit economic partnership offers 'compelling offer to the rest of the world'

An economic diversification report going before Windsor city council Monday stressed the importance of its geography in creating new economic opportunities in the city.
Titled “Windsor Works,” the report outlines four pillars as key to driving diversification: location, infrastructure, economic future and talent.
“This is really the nexus point, so you really want to take advantage of this,” says Bill Anderson, a University of Windsor professor and head of the Cross Border Institute.
He’s referring to a long-standing truth about this region its direct ties to the metropolis across the Detroit River.
“It is much, much closer to the economy of Detroit than other cities in Ontario. And if you’re looking at an economic geography for Windsor, it’s very much Windsor-Detroit,” says report co-author Rachel Wolf or Public First, a United Kingdom-based consulting firm. ....

Traffic makes its way to Ambassador Bridge that connects Canada to the United States Windsor Ont. on Friday June 15, 2012. A proposal to charge travellers a new fee when entering the U.S. at land border crossings has drawn condemnation in both countries.
The federal government s latest plans to require COVID-19 testing for Canada-U.S. land border travellers has Windsor border crossing workers confused and uncertain about what it will mean for them.
On Friday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in the coming weeks, Canada will start requiring non-essential travellers to show proof of a negative test 72 hours before entering the land border with the U.S. But the government has not provided any further details as to what day this will begin and what testing will entail.  ....

UWindsor study touts job-creating logistics cluster around new bridge

Windsor and Detroit could see significant economic benefits from a logistical collaboration centred around the new Gordie Howe International Bridge, according to a study by the University of Windsor’s Cross-Border Institute.
The study suggests the cities should establish a transportation, distribution, and logistics cluster to best reap the economic benefits.
