Frontiers | COVID-19 in 28-Week Triplets Caused by Intrauterine Transmission of SARS-CoV-2—Case Report

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, in-utero transmission of SARS-CoV-2 remains a rarity and only very few cases have been proven across the world. Here we depict the clinical, laboratory and radiologic findings of preterm triplets born at 28 6/7 weeks to a mother who contracted COVID-19 just one week before delivery. The triplets showed SARS-CoV-2 positivity right after birth, developed significant leukopenia and early-onset pulmonary interstitial emphysema. The most severely affected triplet I required ten days of high-frequency oscillatory ventilation due to failure of conventiona...

Frontiers | Concurrent Newborn Hearing and Genetic Screening in a Multi-Ethnic Population in South China - Vimarsana News

Frontiers | Concurrent Newborn Hearing and Genetic Screening in a Multi-Ethnic Population in South China

Hearing loss is a common sensory deficit in humans with intricate genomic landscape and mutational signature. Approximately 1 - 3 out of 1,000 newborns have hearing loss and up to 60% of these cases have a genetic etiology. In this study, we conducted the concurrent newborn hearing and genetic screening in 20 mutations in GJB2, GJB3, SLC26A4 and MT-RNR1 for 9,506 normal newborns (4,977 [52.4%] males) from 22 ethnic population in South China. A total of 1,079 (11.4%) newborns failed to pass the initial hearing screening, 160 (23.9%) infants failed to pass the re-screening, and 128 (1.4%) infant...

Frontiers | Monitoring Lake Levels From Space: Preliminary Analysis With SWOT - Vimarsana News

Frontiers | Monitoring Lake Levels From Space: Preliminary Analysis With SWOT

Lakes are an essential component of biogeochemical processes, and variations in lake level are regarded as indicators of climate change. For more than a decade, satellite altimetry has successfully monitored variation in water levels over inland seas, lakes, rivers and wetlands. Through altimetry, the surface water levels are measured at varying temporal scales depending on the orbit cycle of the satellite. The futuristic mission of Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) scheduled to be launched in year 2022 shall offer the spatial coverage and resolution suitable for water level estimation...

Frontiers | The Relationship Between Attitude Toward Science and Academic Achievement in Science: A Three-Level Meta-Analysis

Science education is attracting increasing attention and many researchers focus on the issue about the attitude-achievement relationship in science, but there is still no consistent conclusion. By using a three-level meta-analytic approach, the aim of the current study was to investigate the relationship between attitude towards science and academic achievement in learning science among primary and secondary school students, and to explore if some study characteristics could have contributed to the inconsistent findings with regard to this relationship as observed in the research literature. T...
