The Queensland government will today unveil a multimillion-dollar jobs campaign offering free flights and cash payments in a bid to fill thousands of tourism posts across the state. It is hoped the $7.5 million "Work in Paradise" initiative will help find workers from across the country for about 4000 unfilled tourism positions throughout regional Queensland at a time when struggling operators are desperate to attract more staff. The clever push shapes as the biggest jobs-based tourism drive since the hugely successful Best Job in the World campaign by Tourism and Events Queensland more than a decade ago.

It's starting to feel like everything I do in Cairns begins with a countdown. "Three, two, one, bungy!" "Five, four, three, two, one, jump!" "Three, two, one, go!" The end of each countdown means a plunge into the unknown: a leap off a cliff into a raging river; a step into the ocean to explore the deep; a teetering, windmilling, ground-rushing freefall with only a rubber cord for safety. See Also I came to Cairns looking for adventure, and I've found it. I came here looking for an old-school travel experience, a south-east Asian-style escapade where it's hot and sweaty and you do crazy things and you meet crazy people and everything feels adrenalin-fuelled and loose. And I've found that.
Travel agents out in the cold with half-price airfares Share The Morrison government’s much-hyped half-price airfare scheme led to an uptick in bookings for airlines and accommodation providers but failed to create a trickle-down effect that would help travel agents stay afloat. While half-price airfares to places like the Whitsundays (pictured) have lifted airlines and hotels, travel agents are seeing little benefit. This was even after a second stage of taxpayer-funded help to the sector was flagged. Australian Federation of Travel Agents chairman Tom Manwaring said 20 per cent or under of an average agency’s revenue would come from domestic travel, with the vast majority of it reliant on international trips.
