Margaret Murphy to lead Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown


PROVINCETOWN The leadership at the Fine Arts Work Center will begin another transition March 1, just as officials there have renewed their commitment to greater diversity and inclusion.
Margaret Murphy, executive director from 2007 to 2012, will return in that role on a volunteer interim basis at the end of the month until the next leader is chosen. Officials expect a new executive director to take over May 1 based on a search that began in November.
Murphy will take the reins temporarily following the center staff and board of trustees re-emphasis this month on the importance of “diversity, belonging, equity and inclusion.” Center officials recently posted a lengthy statement on the fawc.org website about changes that have been and will be made in response to race-related concerns raised last year. ....

WORCESTER The EcoTarium, The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Arts and Music Worcester Inc. have each been granted $100,000 out of nearly $10 million that has been announced by the state in COVID relief to cultural nonprofits.
Mass Cultural Council, in partnership with the Executive Office of Housing & Economic Development, announced Jan. 6 that 183 cultural nonprofit organizations have received $9,960,600 in Cultural Organization Economic Recovery Grants to support this sector s economic recovery from losses sustained by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Grant awards ranged from $1,000 to a maximum of $100,000. Locally, Apple Tree Arts of Grafton also received $100,000, while Studio Theatre of Worcester was awarded $1,000. ....

Five Berkshire cultural organizations land $100,000 state grants to offset pandemic losses


PITTSFIELD — Fourteen Berkshire County cultural nonprofits whose finances have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic have received much-needed financial assistance from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
They are among the 183 cultural nonprofits across the state that have received almost $10 million in COVID relief through the Cultural Organization Economic Recovery Grant Program, administered by the council in partnership with the state Executive Office of Housing & Economic Development. The program is part of the Baker-Polito Administration’s Economic Recovery Plan, Partnerships for Recovery.
The Berkshire-based cultural nonprofits combined received $864,700 in funding through the program. Five Berkshire nonprofits, Berkshire Theatre Group, Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center, Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, Shakespeare & Company and Williamstown Theatre Festival, each received $100,000. The Berkshire Bach Society of New Marlborough received $42,000. ....

BOSTON – Mass Cultural Council, in partnership with the Executive Office of Housing & Economic Development, announced the recipients of nearly $10 million in COVID relief through the Cultural Organization Economic Recovery Grant Program.
Three Fall River organizations were among the 183 cultural nonprofits statewide that received $9,960,600 to support this sector’s economic recovery from losses sustained by the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is part of the Baker-Polito Administration’s Economic Recovery Plan, Partnerships for Recovery.
