Large queues at Sydney's Northern Beaches COVID testing clinics as residents get tested in record numbers


Residents of Sydney s Northern Beaches have an anxious wait to see if they will get the same Christmas privileges as other families after attending COVID-19 drive-through testing clinics in record numbers today.
More than 100,00 COVID swabs were done in the Northern Beaches today as authorities work to shut down the cluster in time to ease restrictions on Christmas day.
Lines at the Manly Hospital testing clinic were said to be the longest ever seen while those at the Curl Curl testing location as said to be several hours long.

The big question on Sydney s northern beaches after COVID-19 crimped Christmas is what to do about the meat. The tonnes of hams, the turkeys bred for Christmas and the fillets of beef ordered months ahead at great expense for family gatherings are now piling up in butchers cold rooms.
For all the last-minute changes to orders caused by the lockdown, many customers were sticking to their original orders despite numbers changing, according to local businesses.

A customer took home an eight-kilo turkey for two people [ordered for a much larger Christmas gathering]. They will be eating leftover turkey sandwiches for weeks, said Kate Hansen, the owner of the Avalon Village Butcher. We have a nice community down here, she said. ....

Queensland is recording three new cases of COVID-19 this morning, with one associated with the Sydney Northern Beaches outbreak.
The remaining two new cases today are overseas acquired and were detected in hotel quarantine.
Queensland’s Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said the case associated with the Northern Beaches outbreak was infectious in South East Queensland for two days.
“The woman in her 50s arrived in Brisbane on 16 December on flight VA925 and made her way to the Sunshine Coast,” she said. ....
