Latest on COVID-19 in MN: Hope amid the hard numbers

Updated 1:30 p.m.
Minnesota’s COVID-19 data continues to offer a mix of hope and uncertainty. New daily case counts fell below 1,000 for the first time since early October, but that came on very low testing, making it difficult to draw any conclusions about the pandemic’s path.
The death toll, meanwhile, continues to climb.
If you thought YESTERDAY’S #COVID19 data was unreliable due to low holiday weekend testing, I’d like to introduce you to today’s just 7,500 tests, the lowest in one day since September 9.
So none of today’s data is going to be very reliable. pic.twitter.com/Q8RtRyJcJQ David H. Montgomery (@dhmontgomery) December 29, 2020

'Step in the right direction' as Minnesota nursing home residents get first vaccine doses

Minnesotans in nursing homes are beginning to take steps to safety. At the St. Cloud VA Community Living Center, residents and staff began receiving the COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday.
Just after 2 p.m., the first resident and first staff member at the nursing home received initial doses of the Moderna vaccine. They re among the first long-term care residents and staff members in the state to get vaccinated.
This is the road to our veterans getting to see their loved ones again, getting to go outside, getting to move freely again, said nurse manager Mandi Loxterkamp.
An assisted living facility at the Prairie Island Indian Community also began vaccinating residents Tuesday.
