Australia could end up being cut off from the rest of the world for five years if we don t accept some Covid-19 cases and deaths, a leading disease expert has warned.
ANU Professor Peter Collignon said the nation would become like hermit kingdom North Korea where residents are never allowed to leave if our attitude to the virus doesn t change.

Scott Morrison has raised hopes Australians vaccinated against Covid-19 will be allowed to go overseas and return home without undergoing hotel quarantine.
The prime minister said the government s medical experts had been tasked with coming up with a framework to give travel freedom to Australians who have received both doses of the jab.
Mr Morrison said the plan was still some time away from becoming reality but was the next step in relaxing the country s strict border closures during the pandemic.  ....

Unvaccinated holidaymakers will be banned from P&O Cruises staycation sailings this summer.
Brits who wish to sail on a domestic cruise will have to have received both doses of the Covid vaccine at least seven days in advance of their trip, the UK s largest cruise line has said.
Last week maritime minister Robert Courts told MPs last week that domestic cruises could be permitted from May 17.
So far nearly 25million people have received at least their first dose of a vaccine, while 1.6m have received both.   ....
