43 pairs of red heels on Amsterdam Dam Square in protest against femicide

On Sunday, red heels will be laid down on Dam Square in Amsterdam to draw attention to the Dutch victims of femicide, the murder of women. A total of 43 pairs of red painted heels will be placed on the Amsterdam square to symbolize the murdered women."The latest figures show that in recent years an average of 43 women per year have been murdered in the Netherlands, mostly by their male (ex-)partners," the organization said.

As part of Free Heri Heri For All, this dish will be distributed free of charge not only in Amsterdam but throughout the Netherlands.

Archeologists are currently investigating around De Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam ahead of construction work to give eight of the church’s pillars a new foundation next year. They expect to find many skeletons. De Nieuwe Kerk on Dam Square opened in 1409 and has been carefully maintained over the centuries. In the last century, 133 of the building’s pillars got new foundations. Next year, the eight pillars in the western part of the church will get their turn.
