Black Soil, a nonprofit that promotes Black farmers, has proposed putting a grocery store on Florence Avenue.
A proposal to put a 10-story apartment complex on the site was turned down by Urban County Planning Commission in 2019 due to widespread opposition.
“There was a concentrated effort to portray us in a bad light,” a developer said of the neighborhood’s efforts to shut down the private club.
Neighbors in the Old Richmond Road corridor pushed back against the proposal that includes apartments, town homes, a restaurant and a Wawa.
A private, members-only club was approved by the Urban County Planning Commission at a Thursday meeting.
