geen, everyone. out front tonight, we have breaking news. new details are coming out about the army staff sergeant accused of killing 16 afghan civilians, including nine children. now, this is that house to house rampage that happened yesterday. and here is the very latest about the suspect. we have learned that the staff sergeant is in his 30s and was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury after a vehicle rollover accident in 2010 in iraq. now, he was treated for that and then found fit for duty. he has served several tours in iraq. this, though, was his first deployment to afghanistan. now, we also know that he s a qualial qaeda qualified infantry sniper, which means he s trained to kill at 800 meters. he remains in nato custody tonight. we do have some new details about how the u.s. military learned about the i think ncide what happened as soon as they found out. chris, what more can you tell us? one of the biggest tipoff was when these afghan villages showed up ....

needed supplies just sit across the border. cnn s reza sayah joins me from islamabad with more. reza, first off, what do we know in terms of specifics about the attacks? reporter: ted, the most detailed account we re getting is from pakistani officials. and it s important to note that u.s. and nato officials have yet to say that this is exactly what happened. this is what pakistan is saying happened. essentially officials here are saying in the early morning hours of saturday a nato air strike hit two military check posts on pakistani soil, killing at least 24 pakistani soldiers. they say this incident happened in a place called mohmens, a district in pakistan s tribal region right along the afghanistan border. there s a lot of militant activity in this region. what you have often is pakistani troops. nato troops carrying out a lot of operations here. but the agreement is for pakistan to stay on its side and nato to stay on its side. but officials here in pakistan say ....

embassy in afghanistan in kabul. two dead, one an american citizen. monitoring the situation from our bureau in abu dhabi. an apparent breach of security inside a heavily guarded complex in kabul. what do we know about it. reporter: bear in mind where this was. this was a part of the u.s. embassy compound and annex will many are working. one of the employees started shooting in various directions. he was later shot dead. his victims appeared to have been one u.s. citizen, also an embassy employee and another one injured, not life threatening and subsequently moved to hospital. has we don t know is why this happened. could it have been some kind of taliban plot? unclear. investigations are ongoing. or a personal dispute. how did this afghan get through security and carry this out? many questions but certainly a significant breach of security right in the heart of kabul s most secure area, ali. it s not the first time. we saw this attack a little while ago. hats going ....
