Saturday, 12 Dec 2020 Day one: Saarani clocking in on his first day as mentri besar at the state secretariat building in Ipoh. — RONNIE CHIN/The Star IPOH: Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad remains tight-lipped on whether PAS will be part of the new state executive council. He said he could only propose names as it was the prerogative of the Perak Ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah to give the final assent to the list. On Thursday, after his swearing-in as the mentri besar at Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar, the initial five exco members were sworn in as well. There are still five more exco members to be appointed to complete the line-up.
1:00 PM MYT IPOH: The Mentri Besar can only propose the names of Perak state executive councillors, as it is the prerogative of Perak Ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah to assent to the exco list, says Datuk Saarani Mohamad ( pic). The Perak Mentri Besar said this when asked if PAS would be part of the list, as there were five more exco members who have yet to be appointed. “The post of the five exco members will be filled when the time is right, but you must remember that a mentri besar can only suggest the names, while the final say would be that of the Ruler," said Saarani.
KUALA KANGSAR: Being appointed Mentri Besar is a heavy burden to bear, says Datuk Saarani Mohamad. The newly minted 14th Perak Mentri Besar noted there were lots of matters before him following the political crisis in the state. “I will carry out my duties as best as I can and will ensure smooth running of the state’s administration, ” he said after being sworn in at Istana Iskandariah before Perak Ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah. Saarani said he would be retaining the state Budget prepared under the administration of his predecessor Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu. He noted there was no time to make amendments to the Perak Budget ahead of the state assembly sitting on Dec 16.
