Salina doctors debut heart procedure program to benefit community

The transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) surgery was performed on Tuesday at Salina Regional. David Battin, cardiologist at Mowery, said aortic valve disease is fairly common in older people, and this new way to replace it will benefit the community and the region. "Traditionally, when the valve goes out and needs fixed ... it (was) a major operation which involves an incision down the sternum," Battin said. "It results in a seven- to 10-day hospitalization."
