The Texas State Library and Archives Commission has reason to believe that Corey Westmoreland of Dallas has a historic letter that belongs to the state. The agency has reason to believe this is because, it says, on May 29, 2020, Westmoreland, via email, sent a copy of the letter and asked whether the state might be interested in buying it. “To whom it may concern,” Westmoreland wrote, correctly perceiving that someone at the commission might be someone to whom it may concern, “I have an original letter from David Burnet dated 1836, written to Thomas Toby, with mention of Colonel James Morgan. I’m curious if the State of Texas would be interested in purchasing this? I have included pictures below. Cordially yours, Corey Westmoreland.” ....
