Chad & Jeremy singer Chad Stuart dies aged 79

British singer-songwriter Chad Stuart, who had hits in the US with the 1960s duo Chad & Jeremy, has died aged 79.
The folk-pop pair enjoyed success with songs like Yesterday's Gone, A Summer Song and Willow Weep For Me.
As part of the British Invasion, they found greater success in the US than in their home country, where Yesterday's Gone was their only top 40 single.
A statement said the world had "lost a legend" but his voice would "continue to touch our lives through his music".

Chad Stuart — an English singer-songwriter known best as one half of 1960's folk-pop duo Chad & Jeremy — has died. A post on the duo's Facebook page confirmed Stuart passed December 20 at his home in Hailey, Idaho, from complications with pneumonia. He was 79.
"We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Chad Stuart, a father, a husband, a brother, a grandfather, a friend, a mentor, a teacher and an inspiration to many," the post reads, noting that Stuart contracted pneumonia in the fall after being admitted to the hospital for non-COVID-related reasons. "The world has lost a legend today, but his voice will continue to touch our lives through his music."

Chad Stuart, half of the popular singing duo Chad & Jeremy, which had seven Top 40 hits during pop music's "British Invasion" of the mid-1960s with gentle, wistful love songs, died Dec. 20 at his home in Hailey, Idaho. He was 79.
He had pneumonia following an accidental fall, said his daughter, Beth Stuart.
Stuart was studying at a London drama school in 1960 when he met a fellow student, Jeremy Clyde. Stuart, whose given name was David Stuart Chadwick, was more interested in music than acting, and he and Clyde began to perform together in clubs and coffeehouses.

Chad Stuart, who found fame in the 1960s as one half of the English musical duo Chad & Jeremy, has passed away at 79.
On December 20, a post to the group’s Facebook page confirmed that Stuart passed away from pneumonia. His death was not coronavirus-related.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Chad Stuart, a father, a husband, a brother, a grandfather, a friend, a mentor, a teacher and an inspiration to many,” the post read.
“The world has lost a legend today, but his voice will continue to touch our lives through his music”.

Chad and Jeremy, died December 20, 2020. The cause was pneumonia. Stuart turned 79 on Dec. 10.
The duo is known for such ’60s hits as “Yesterday’s Gone,” “A Summer Song” and “Willow Weep for Me,”
The exact place of Stuart’s death has not yet been made public. Stuart’s death was confirmed in a post on the duo’s Facebook page, which reads:
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Chad Stuart, a father, a husband, a brother, a grandfather, a friend, a mentor, a teacher and an inspiration to many. Chad developed pneumonia (non-Covid related) after he was admitted to the hospital due to a fall. We ask for love, celebration but also space while the family adjusts to life without this incredible force. The family would like to thank his fans from around the world for the outpouring of birthday wishes and gifts he received every year. Chad took the time to read each and every card. The world has lost a legend today, but his voice will continue to touch our lives through his music.”

Remembering Chad Stuart - one half of sixties duo Chad & Jeremy, who passed away December 20, 2020. This interview first appeared in Goldmine issue June 27, 2003.
When Chad and Jeremy were first invited to re-group, back in 1986 for the following year's
British Invasion II tour, their first response was, "Hmmm, we don't think so!" Some twenty years had elapsed since the duo went their separate ways, four since an ill-fated reunion under the auspices of the MCA subsidiary Rocshire Records brought them one well-received album, followed by the dashing of hopes and dreams as the record label fell afoul of the law. Surely there was more to life, they both mused, than turning the clock back one more time to fifteen minutes of fame that was a lifetime away?
