WILMINGTON In 2016 when Chase Harrison won StarNews’ Theater Award for Best Original Play for “Wendigo” a horror play that debuted at the now-defunct Browncoat Pub and Theater little did he know he would reprise it in 2021 in a different format because of a pandemic. Big Dawg Productions is opening “Wendigo: An Audio Drama” on Thursday, which will be available for streaming through Mar. 21.
It’s been one year now since Big Dawg launched an in-person production. It began doing audio dramas with Orson Welles “War of the Worlds” last spring, followed by Christmastime’s “Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol.” The productions have been funded by grants from The Landfall Foundation and the Arts Council of Wilmington and New Hanover County.

WILMINGTON It’s hard to remember what it is like going to a full capacity, in-person concert, theater production or community art show. Once March 17 hit almost 10 months ago, all activity pretty much ceased across the globe. Concerts came to a halt and livestreams popped up in their stead. Art exhibits went virtual. Theater productions became pre-filmed or livestreamed.
WILMINGTON Big Dawg Productions announces an audio presentation of a Wilmington favorite, “Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol” by Tom Mula.
The production can be stream by visiting showtix4u.com/event-details/43942. Tickets are $15, and the show is Dec. 17-22. Big Dawg Productions asks that one ticket be purchased per person, and not per household. The honor system will be in place. Once a ticket is purchased, you will be sent a link to a video that contains the play in audio form.
In the tradition of radio theater, the show will feature music, sound effects and powerful performances by four veterans of the Wilmington stage. The play stars Randy Davis as Jacob Marley, a role that gained him the 2018 StarNews Theater Award for Best Actor. The show also features Vanessa Welch as The Bogle, Steve Vernon as Scrooge, and two time StarNews Theater Award winner for Best Actor Fracaswell Hyman in multiple roles.
