Wet snow collapses roof of Freeport Press/Pretzel City Paper
Todd McKenna Special to the Journal-Standard FREEPORT — The accumulation of snow from several winter storms took its toll on a Freeport business sending part of its roof crashing to the ground. The building that houses Freeport Press/Pretzel City Paper at 1031 W. Empire St. was a heap of boards and other materials Sunday as the weight of snow that had accumulated on the roof was too much for the structure to hold and the roof caved in at some point overnight. The latest winter storm brought more than 5 inches of wet and heavy snow and the building's roof fell under that weight.
